Some verbs are followed by -ing and some are followed by to ...

Verbs unremarkably followed by -ing :

Some verbs tin can be followed by -ing or to ... with a deviation of significant:

call back

I remember doing something= I did information technology and now I remember this.

You remember doing something after y'all take done information technology.

· I know I locked the door. I clearly remember locking it.

(=I locked it, and at present I recollect this)

· He could remember driving along the road but earlier the accident, but he couldn't think the accident itself.

I remembered to do something= I remembered that I had to do it, then I did it.

You remember to do something before you do it.

· I remembered to lock the door, simply I forgot to shut the windows.

(= I remembered that I had to lock information technology, and and then I locked it)

· I must call back to pay the electricity beak. (= I must not forget to pay information technology)

regret

I regret doing something= I did it and now

I'k sorry most it:

· I now regret proverb what I said. I shouldn't have said it.

· Exercise y'all regret non going to college?

I regret to say /to tell you / to inform you = I'm sorry that I have to say (etc.):

· (from a formal letter of the alphabet) We regret to inform yous that your application has been unsuccessful.

get on

Go on doing something = continue with the same affair:

· The president paused for a moment and then went on talking .

· We demand to change. Nosotros tin't go along living like this.

Go on to do something = do or say something new:

· Subsequently discussing the economy, the president then went on to talk about strange policy.

The following verbs can be followed by -ing or to .. . with no difference of meaning:

begin

intend

bother

So you tin say:

· Information technology started raining . or It started to rain .

· Andy intends buying a business firm. or Andy intends to buy ...

· Don't bother locking the door. or Don't bother to lock ...

But usually we do non use -ing after -ing :

· Information technology's starting to rain . (non information technology'southward starting raining)
